Theory test
Czech driving theory test: how many questions, points and minutes

The theory part of the Czech driving test is a computer-based test on road traffic rules. Before you sit it, it helps to know exactly how it is structured and how the questions are scored.
The figures below come from Decree No. 298/2006 Coll. on driving-licence examinations.
The test at a glance
The test you take at the exam has fixed parameters:
- 25 questions,
- 50 points in total,
- a time limit of 30 minutes,
- you need at least 43 points to pass.
How many points each question is worth
Questions are not all worth the same. Each is worth 1, 2 or 4 points, depending on the category it comes from.
| Question category | Points per question |
|---|---|
| Traffic situations | 4 |
| Road traffic rules | 2 |
| Regulations related to vehicle operation | 2 |
| Principles of safe driving | 2 |
| Traffic signs | 1 |
| Conditions for operating vehicles | 1 |
| First aid | 1 |
How many mistakes you can afford
Out of 50 points you can lose at most 7. That sounds generous, but four-point questions add up fast: two wrong answers in traffic situations cost 8 points, which leaves 42 and the test is failed.
That is why traffic situations deserve the most attention. They are the category where one mistake costs the most, and also the one you can best learn by understanding the rule instead of memorising the answer.
How to approach the test
A few habits that work well:
- Answer what you know for sure first and leave harder questions for later. Thirty minutes for 25 questions is enough, but do not get stuck on one.
- Read the whole question, including what exactly it asks.
- In traffic situations, find the signs and traffic lights first, and only then work out the order of the vehicles.
- At the end, go back to the questions you flagged and make sure every question is answered.
How to prepare
What works best is studying in small steps and regularly taking a full mock test with official scoring. After every mistake, read why a different answer is correct, so that individual answers turn into rules you actually understand.
TurboTesty offers a free mock test, official questions split into lessons of about ten questions, and an explanation for each one.
